Andrew “Drew” Leung is a concept artist, matte painter, and VFX designer. Grounded in traditional drawing and painting, his unique past in illustration, matte painting, visual effects, and previz supervision combined with state of the art technological prowess brings special insight into story-driven concept design. His more recent work is Real Steel; as a concept designer on this film, he worked on the design of two of the main robots as well as many of the props and sets.
Originally from Oregon, Leung studied illustration, animation, and film at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After illustrating the Hawaiian children's book, "The Royal Waker-Upper", Leung started in the film industry as a matte painter and VFX artist on Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow at Riot Pictures in Santa Monica.
Leung also helped build the animatics department at Blue Sky Studios while freelancing as a vfx artist/matte painter in New York City. It was there that his no holds-barred approach to previsualization contributed to creating the cinematic language for Horton Hears a Who!, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and Rio.
He resides in Los Angeles where he continues to create uncompromising art for the entertainment industry.
